ENVIRONMENT PROGRAM

Advocacy and Movement Building

We aim to enable Maine residents to be effective champions for enhanced access to nature and nature learning, environment protection policies and practices, and community and state action to mitigate climate change. To achieve our goals for this strategy, we support nonprofit work in two areas:

Enable Youth To Engage in Advocacy Work

Support Mobilization Initiatives

Enable Youth To Engage in Advocacy Work

We believe that access to the outdoors and knowledge about climate change inspire young people to advocate for environmental protection and their own continued access to nature. Therefore, we support programs that help youth gain the skills, develop the tools, and build the networks necessary for successful advocacy and mobilization.

Support Mobilization Initiatives

We support statewide and regional efforts that bring people together to address environment and climate issues. Our resources can enable organizations to undertake research, engage the public, critique policies and practices, propose alternatives, work to increase public funding for the environmental initiatives, and hold policymakers accountable for advancing science-based climate and environment goals.
