The Onion Foundation’s Discovery grants are intended for small scale projects that align with the mission and values of the Foundation. The goal is to spark something new and independent from the day-to-day functions of an organization, and to give leaders a chance to try out an idea.

  • Discovery Grant asks can range from $500 to $2,500

  • Discovery Grants are one-time investments and are not designed to be re-granted for the same project in future years.

  • Decisions will be announced to applicants within three weeks of application. If awarded, grant funds will be sent within two weeks of approval.

  • Discovery Grant Projects must…

    • be a new project, not yet started OR respond to an unforeseen challenge or opportunity

    • be small in scale

    • take place within the next 12 months

    • address a specific need

    • align with the Mission and values of the foundation

    • benefit community members

  • Take our short Eligibility Quiz to determine if your organization is a good match to apply for a grant.
